If you can donate, here are two different opportunities to support students financially:
Undoc Students UMD Opportunity Fund
Funds are first-come, first-serve.
This fund is managed by a faculty at UMD who is part of the Rapid Response Team devoted to supporting undocumented students at the University of Maryland. It will go toward emergency funding, legal fees, grocery vouchers, public transportation, and other critical areas of support.
PLUMAS Dream Fund
Funds are first-come, first-serve.
PLUMAS (Political Latinxs United for Movement and Action in Society) is a campus activist organization at the University of Maryland at College Park. During the 2016 election, PLUMAS members came together to establish a fund in anticipation of upcoming challenges. Sure enough, within the first year of the current administration, DACA and other immigration programs came under attack. The PLUMAS Dream Fund was made available to UndocuTerps at UMD for DACA renewal fees, legal fees, tuition aid, and scholarships. In total, we have raised more than $9,000 and have helped more than fifteen students.
Each year, PLUMAS organizes a spring fundraising event, our annual Dream Gala, to raise money for the Dream Fund. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we have been forced to cancel Spring 2020’s Gala. The Gala has been tentatively rescheduled for the Fall 2020 semester, but we are unable to announce concrete plans at this time, due to the changing nature of the pandemic. All funds donated to this GoFundMe will go to UndocuTerp needs as they ask for it. In the past this has included status renewal fees, tuition aid, payment for legal support, and scholarships. As needs change with the upcoming DACA decision and the pandemic, so will our efforts change to accommodate them.
