ORIENTATION

VETERAN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE ORIENTATION

For two years now Veteran Student Life has hosted an action packed, physically demanding three-day orientation adventure! This orientation will not remind you of your military experience or its structure. It will focus on helping you transition into the UMD community, enhance your leadership skills, and develop a social network on campus. This outdoor trip is at no cost to the student veteran but space is limited. For more information please check out last year's Veteran's Outdoor Orientation Video

One-Day Veteran Student Orientation

Each semester Veteran Student Life hosts an orientation for incoming student veterans, whether they are new students or transfer students. During this event, we kindly ask for you to bring your DD 214 or proof of military service for verification to veteran services.

The program includes a familiarization with the campus and its resources, presentations from the VA Certifying Official, Financial Aid Officer, academic advisors, the University Career Center, and many more campus representatives interested in helping veterans succeed as University of Maryland students. Lunch will be served.

Please check out our Veteran Orientation Checklist for all incoming student-veterans.

The one day student-veteran orientation for spring will be announced soon. Lunch will be provide for all those in attendance. A notification will be sent out with this information to all incoming veterans. This session will include information not included in the traditional orientation such as transfer and freshman orientations. Topics covered will be: VA benefits, scholarships community service, educational opportunities, adapted services for student-veterans, and community service projects.
