Welcome! The University of Maryland is one of the nation’s most academically challenging and diverse public institutions. There are a variety of resources at the University to support Latina/x/o students. We urge you to take advantage of Latina/x/o Student Involvement and to explore our website, visit us in Suite 1120 in the Stamp Student Union or give us a call at (301) 314-8600 to learn more about Latino student organizations and ways to get involved on campus.
Latinx/a/o Student Involvement Mission Statement
Latina/x/o Student Involvement and Advocacy promotes student development and campus participation for Latino/a/x students. We are committed to the creation and maintenance of a campus environment where Latinx identity and issues are affirmed and supported. We are committed to helping students to succeed at the University through opportunities for personal growth, organizational involvement and community development. For more information about getting involved, please contact the Coordinator for Latinx/a/o Student Involvement and Advocacy, Yvette Lerma Jones by email.
As you may remember we used to use Latina/o or Latin@ in past years but in order to be more inclusive, we are moving beyond the gender binary. Latinx is a gender neutral alternative to gendered description of Latina or Latino. We understand that a name change is a surface level endeavor and that policy changes and education are crucial. We seek to honor the lived experiences of Latinx/a/o communities.
