Terrapin Leadership Institute

The Terrapin Leadership Institute (TLI)  is a five week-long leadership development program tasked to guide students across campus -- through hands-on activities and critical dialogue -- in discovering who they are as leaders and becoming confident with tangible leadership skills and strategies that can be applied to their everyday lives. The workshop is a low-commitment, high intensity series that is meant to accommodate the student's busy schedule. In addition, there is no cost to participate in TLI!

Schedule

TLI Introductory Track (5 weeks): Intro engages with concepts like leadership styles, ethics, identity, collaboration and communication to develop increased understanding of the sequential nature of leadership -- self-leadership, effective teamwork, and ultimately practicing socially responsible leadership in one’s community. Perfect for emerging leaders! No prior formal leadership experience necessary! Choose from ONE of four weekly meeting times:

Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00pm (Oct. 4th to Nov. 1st)
Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00pm (Oct. 5th to Nov. 2nd)
Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30pm (Oct. 5th to Nov. 2nd)
Thursdays from 5:30-7:00pm (October 6th to Nov. 3rd)

TLI Plus Track - The Big L, Positional Leadership Role (5 weeks): Designed for those who have previous exposure to leadership theory, styles, and experiences, the TLI Plus track examines the Big L, or positional, leadership paradigm. How does a positional leader deal with challenges presented to oneself,  the organization’s membership, and the success of its mission? This is beneficial for students who are currently in such a position, or who are seeking to take one on in the future.

***NOTE: Participants MUST have completed a previous Maryland LEAD program (TLI Intro, Maryland Leadership Conference, Summit, or Turtle Camp) or hold a positional leadership position on campus to register for this track.

Tuesdays 7:00-8:30pm (Oct. 4th to Nov. 1st)

TLI for College Park Scholars Track (5 weeks): Uniquely for the College Park Scholars Living-Learning Program, this introduction to leadership will allow students to develop their personal leadership styles amidst a Scholars-specific context. Students will explore concepts like leadership styles, ethics, identity, collaboration and communication to develop increased understanding of the sequential nature of leadership -- self-leadership, effective teamwork, and ultimately practicing socially responsible leadership in one’s community. This track is held in the Cambridge Community Center and shapes dialogue around the shared goals/mission of TLI and Scholars.

Thursdays 6:30-8:00pm (Oct. 6th to Nov. 3rd)
