Maria is a transfer student double majoring in English and Film Studies with a certificate track in Latin American Studies. They are the LGBTQ+ COSI for MICA as well as the board facilitator for UMD's Pride Alliance, University of Maryland's campus wide LGBT student union. Maria believes that incorporating intersectional queer activism in our political and everyday actions will make the future brighter and sustainable. In their free time, they enjoy watching art-house films, writing screenplays, and painting. They are apart of a two-spirit art collective named Nelwat Ishkamewe which uses their indigenous identity and experience to create art in a world that silences us. They are excited for future generations of people who live out their truths everyday without fear of punishment.

Sara Karlovitch, one of the LGBTQ COSI, is a junior journalism and government major. She is a member of the Lavender Honor Society and the facilitator of Bisexuals at Maryland, a group for bisexual and pansexual members of the UMD community. Karlovitch is also the editor-in-chief of The Writer’s Bloc, an on campus arts and politics publication. She has a cat named Lilo and a dog named Stitch.
