Rachel Akins

Rachel Akins is currently a School Counseling Master’s student at UMD. She is originally from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and graduated from Villanova University in 2016 with a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish. Her professional interests and passions center around access to fair and equal education and adequate mental health services for young people of color, especially those from low income backgrounds. She is determined develop comprehensive school counseling programs that address the multiple social, emotional, and academic needs of low income K-12 students, and connect them with resources both inside their schools and in their surrounding  communities. In her free time, Rachel enjoys cooking, watching hair videos, and playing guitar.

Black Student Involvement Intern


Camille Cade is a junior Communications major on the Public Relations track with a minor in Rhetoric. She is the Ways and Means Committee Chair for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Nu Chapter, Community Service chair for the Black Student Union, and a member of the Black Communication Society. Camille loves the arts and is a musical buff. In her spare time she is often baking, cooking, and binge watching A Different World. Camille is from Montgomery County, Maryland and hopes to pursue a career in entertainment PR and brand management. As a Black Student Involvement Intern, she is hoping to unite the Black on-campus community and make Black History Month better than ever before. 


Jasmine Washington

Jasmine is a Communications/Criminal Justice double major. She was born and raised in Woodbridge, Virginia. She is the Black Student Involvement intern in the Multicultural Involvement and Community Advocacy (MICA) office. She is also the public relations chair of S.I.S.T.A. & NAACP. Outside of her leadership roles, she is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma Honors Societies. In her free time Jasmine enjoys reading books related to the justice system/civil rights movements, and making her own face masks. She is dedicated to connecting all minority groups and finding the intersections that lie within.
