Graduate Student Appreciation Week is a week-long series of events and free offerings held each spring designed to recognize the contributions of graduate students. This week allows us to offer free giveaways, food, and evening events to give a special thanks to the 10,000 plus graduate students at the University of Maryland for all of the hard work that they do!

Free Coffee- Love Free Coffee Thursday?! Join us in the Graduate Student Lounge EVERY DAY this week for coffee and tea all day long.  (M-F 8:30-4).  We will be featuring different specialty coffees from around the world each day! 

RafflesEvery event you attend gets you entered into our raffles for prizes!  We’ll be giving away Terrapin Express cards, SWAG, and UMD prizes!  We will also have a SPECIAL PUNCH CARD RAFFLE for your chance to win a Nintendo Switch, 2019 Lenovo ChromeBook, Coffee Lover Gift Basket, UMD Prize Pack, or an Amazon FireStick.  Don’t forget to get your punch card stamped at every event you attend!  GradTerps who get 5 punches on their card throughout the week will be eligible to win!

SWAG GiveawaysWe’ll be randomly giving out some pretty sweet NEW GradTerp swag at our events and in the Grad Student Lounge (0121 Stamp) all week long! 



Monday, April 1

Join us in the Grad Student Lounge to jump start your week!  We’ll be serving up a light breakfast while supplies last. 

12:00pm-1:30pm- Graduate Interfaith Community Lunch and Conversation
Location: Benjamin Banneker (2212 Stamp)
During this free communal lunch, students of all different faith traditions and those who may not be connected to a faith tradition, are welcome to share and learn about various faith traditions and the views on contemporary questions as we work together to make UMD feel a bit smaller and build a stronger community on our campus.  We will be joined by Campus Chaplain, Pastor Ray Ranker, & Rabbi Aderet Drucker.  All are welcome!

1:30pm-2:30pm- Eat Dessert First with Graduate Student Government
Location: Graduate Student Government Office (within the Grad Student Lounge- 0121 Stamp)
Meet with your GSG for dessert!  This is a casual opportunity for folks to see the GSG space within the Graduate Student Lounge and to meet with executives and reps.

3:00pm-4:00pm- GradTerp T-Shirt Giveaway
Location: Graduate Student Lounge (0121 Stamp)
We're giving away our *exclusive* and signature purple #GradTerp T-shirts!  While supplies last. Must present Grad Student ID

4:30pm-6:30pm- GSG Assembly
Location: Charles Carroll Room (Stamp Student Union 2203)
Graduate Student Government (GSG) is the official representative body for graduate students at the University of Maryland, College Park. It is comprised of the executive (Executive Committee) and legislative (Assembly) branches. We meet monthly at our General Assembly Meetings, which are open to all graduate students.  Refreshments provided.

Location: Graduate Student Lounge (0121 Stamp)
Join us in the lounge to get started on a STAMP tradition Scavenger Hunt. By yourself or with friends, figure out the traditions and take photos around STAMP. Those who complete 5 or more tradition on this day will receive a prize! All who participate will be entered into a raffle. 

12:00pm-1:30pm - GLAO Gradulting Workshop Series- Salary Negotiations
Location: Benjamin Banneker (2212 Stamp)
What will affect your financial situation more than any other factor is not how many (or how few) coffee lattes you buy, but how much you earn.  While negotiating a salary and benefits package may seem scary, employers expect you to negotiate.  Learn and practice the art of negotiation so that you strike the best deal possible with your future employer.  Doors open at noon for a buffet luncheon, presentation will take place from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.  Seating is limited and registration is required. As part of Graduate Student Appreciation Week and Pride Month, we invite you to stop by the Graduate Student Lounge to grab some pizza, meet with other LGBTQ and allied graduate students, and learn more about resources on campus.  Presented and sponsored by Graduate Student Life and the Graduate School Office of Graduate Diversity and Inclusion.

7:30am-10:30am - Good Morning Commuters with GSL and TOCSL
Location: Atrium (STAMP 1107)
Good Morning Commuters takes place every first Wednesday of the Month from 7:30-10:30am in the Atrium in Stamp. We team up with Maryland Food Co-op to serve our off-campus and commuter students bagels, muffins, fresh pressed, organic juices and coffee to start your day. Stop by for some hot java and a chance to chat with fellow off-campus students!

9:00am-4:00pm - Graduate Research Appreciation Day (GRAD)
Location: Stamp Student Union, 2nd Floor
Graduate Research Appreciation Day (GRAD) provides an on-campus conference-style venue in which graduate students from all academic backgrounds can share their research or work, obtain valuable faculty and peer feedback, and hone their communication skills within the comfort of their own campus environment. GRAD fosters healthy competition among students by recognizing and awarding the best presentations from subject-themed oral, poster, and elevator-speech presentation sessions, among others.

2:30pm-4:00pm - GSAW and Graduate School Centennial Event
Location: Atrium (Stamp 1107)

The Graduate School is 100 years old this year!   Please join us for our Centennial Student Celebration on April 3rd at 2:30 pm in the Atrium in Stamp.  Come and enjoy delicious cake and ice cream with friends. During the event, we will be playing our Centennial Trivia Game for a chance to win prizes.  This event is open to the UMD community.  No registration is required.

 

4:00pm-6:00pm - Craft Night- GSAW Edition

Location: Graduate Student Lounge

Join us for a special GSAW Edition of our Craft Night Series.  We'll have a variety of terrapin themed crafts including bead and leather turtle key chains, turtle sun catchers, cork coaster decorating, and other fun projects!

Do you feel uncomfortable and anxious when you hear the word "networking"? Are you tired of "talking about the weather" and not knowing what else to say? Come learn skills and techniques that will build your confidence in making your first impression. This session will be hand-ons and we will practice together! Light snacks will be provided. Co-sponsored by The University Career Center & The President's Promise, The Graduate School, and Graduate Student Life.

As part of DOTS Bike Week, the Bike Parade will feature a contest for the best decorated bike- individual and largest student group!   GradTerps who attend can get their punch card stamped and receive exclusive Grad Swag by showing their grad ID to a GSL staff member. Saturday, April 6

 

10:30am-1:30pm - Cherry Blossom Cruise
Location: Pier 4, Water Street SW, Washington, DC
THIS IS A MONTHLY SOCIAL SERIES TRIP.  TICKETS MUST BE PRE-PURCHASED. GradTerps will travel on their own to Pier 4, Water Street SW, Washington DC near the Waterfront Metro Stop to arrive by 10:45am. Once there, they’ll check in with GSL Staff to receive their tickets and depart on a cherry blossom-viewing cruise of the Potomac! The lunch cruise lasts about 2 hours and is buffet-style. GradTerps will also have the chance to show their moves on the dance floor. Please e-mail gradstudentlife@umd.edu with any dietary restrictions. Soft drinks are included in the ticket price, but please bring cash to take advantage of the cash bar. Co-sponsored by GLAO!
