Mentor Elementary Students
In America Reads*America Counts*Partners in Print (AR*AC*PNP), UMD students have the opportunity to improve the lives of young kids and families in Prince George's County through academic support and mentoring. You can help a student improve in reading or math or help parents advocate for their children's learning in school, at home, and in the community!

Engage in Global Issues
Alternative Breaks (AB) coordinates substance-free, community service-learning experiences during the university's winter, spring, and summer breaks. AB participants travel locally, nationally, and internationally in teams to engage in active service and gain new perspectives on social issues while meeting community needs and learning about and building upon community assets.

Take Leadership Courses
The Leadership Studies Program promotes college student leadership development by educating undergraduate students for and about leadership in a complex world. You can take a couple of courses or pursue a Minor or Certificate in Leadership Studies.

Develop Leadership Skills
Through Maryland LEAD, you can discover your potential, develop your abilities to practice socially responsible leadership, and dive into a community of change makers. You can sign up for leadership-focused conferences, institutes, workshops, and retreats to build your skills alongside students from across campus!

Serve the Local Community
Terp Service connects the University of Maryland to its surrounding community through continuing partnerships with local nonprofit organizations. You can browse current volunteer opportunities on Services 24/7, commit to serving for a semester through Terps for Change, or intern with a local non-profit through Work for Change.
