ABOUT VETERAN STUDENT LIFE

The University of Maryland recognizes the extraordinary contributions of members of our armed services and we understand the unique challenges of transitioning into a university environment. We are committed to providing an environment that helps veterans pursue their academic and personal goals, explore different learning experiences, and get involved in campus life. Through Veteran Student Life, we offer a hub for resources that can serve veterans who are students, staff, or faculty on campus.

 Mission of Veteran Student Life:

To build and maintain a community of University of Maryland students, staff, faculty, and alumni, all who have served in the US military, that supports a seamless transition from military life to civilian college life and provides support for continued growth in mind, body, and spirit, carrying the pride and confidence established in the military into the college experience as well as future careers for veteran alumni.

Veterans Center

Thanks to a generous donation from Board of Trustee member and former Secretary of the Navy Gordon England, a Veterans Center is available exclusively for UMD student veterans. It is located in the Cole Field House Activities Building which is located next to the STAMP Student Union Building. This center includes:

  • Computers and Printers
  • Free Coffee
  • Kitchenette
  • Study Lounge
  • Televisions/Gaming 
  • Tutoring/Study Assistance
  • Graduate Peer Support

To gain access to the Veterans Lounge please Submit Your Full Name, UID # along with a copy of your DD-214 or Military Id to vetstudentlife@umd.edu

Maryland is one of 15 Centers of Excellence for Veteran Student Success in the nation and received a generous grant through the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) to further address the academic, financial, physical and social needs of student Veterans on campus through the U.S. Department of Education.
