JAMES MCSHAY, PH.D.

Dr. James C. McShay, Ph.D.

Dr. James McShay is an Associate Director for the Adele H. Stamp Student Union and Multicultural Advocacy Programs. He is a native New Yorker, who was born and raised in the Bronx. James received his Ph.D. at Iowa State University (ISU) where he served as the Director of Undergraduate Education for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the Program Director for University Studies, Dialogues on Diversity. Also during James' tenure at ISU, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in multicultural education, ethnicity and learning and antiracist education. Some of his research interests include uses of critical pedagogy in PK-16 education, multicultural curriculum development and assessment, and digital learning technologies and how they can be used to support critical multicultural education. James' primary goal through MICA is expand opportunities for all students to learn how to build bridges between their community culture and their future fields of professional work and ensure that those bridges are supported by an intense vision of social justice. When James is "off the clock", he is either training to compete for his first triathlon or spending time with his family.
