Center for Campus Life
Memorial Chapel
Although the Chapel is one of the University's most visible icons, many are unaware of its role as a Memorial to those Maryland students, alumni, faculty and staff who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Chaplaincies work collectively to serve the spiritual needs of the University of Maryland.
Anyone is welcome to reserve space in Memorial Chapel regardless of their affiliation to the University.
$200,000 grant from the TKF Foundation to create a garden of Reflection and Remembrance on the South side of the Chapel.

Mission Statement

The Memorial Chapel is a multi-faceted campus facility serving numerous on-and off- campus populations and is home to a diverse range of events and personnel. Dedicated in 1952 as a living memorial to members of the University community that gave their lives in times of war, the Memorial Chapel is the center of religious life on campus and supports all fourteen university recognized chaplaincies and their programs. In addition, it is the site for weddings, concerts, lectures, convocations, commencements and other special events throughout the year.

Announcements

Become a part of the Tree of Life art project for the West Chapel!    Students, staff, and local community members are needed to stitch part of a canvas in needlepoint; training will be given.  If you already have a canvas, come to a Tree of Life needlepoint night throughout the summer (dates to be announced).   Drop-in stitching sessions also take place at the Campus Programs office at 0110 on Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m.  Contact Chapel Coordinator Denise McHugh at dmchugh@umd.edu (301-314-9893) for details.

Chapel Garden
In a time when most people run their lives with an overcrowded calendar and the world seems a bit more fragile, finding time - let alone a place - to reflect is difficult.
The Garden of Reflection and Remembrance is such a peaceful place to visit.
