14th | African Student Association: The Black Body | 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm | Nyumburu Cultural Center Multipurpose Room

This special GBM is a discussion and open mic event concerning the African body and the ideals generated from both European and various African influences. We will also discuss the story of the South African slave Hottentaut Venus who was put in an exhibit due to her body shape. As a part of ASA’s Women of Color Month, this open mic GBM revolves around African femininity.

Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista and his ensemble is a wild, unstoppable world beat percussive band that blends untamed percussion, tap dance, martial arts, samba, jazz, rock and funk. Working in the Brazilian Anthropofagiaartistic movement, the group mixes international instrumentation and unusual percussion inventions of Cyro’s own creation. The musicians hail from all over the world, wear wild costumes and frequently leave their instruments to break into spontaneous dance. An unforgettable experience, led by an equally unforgettable artist!

Milk x Honey is a monthly performance series held at the MilkBoy ArtHouse. Hosted by the University of Maryland's Terpoets, this series strives to create a safe community for the creators of all medias and curate a unique artistic experience by showcasing the exceptional talent in the College Park area!

Join the Multiracial Biracial Student Association in the film screening of “First Person Plural,” the story of Deann Borshay Liem, an American adoptee from Korea, and her journey to unite her biological and adoptive families. This movie explores family, loss, culture, and identity.

GRAMMY-nominated René Marie utilizes various elements of folk, R&B and even classical and country to create a captivating musical exploration of the bright and dark corners of the human experience, and an affirmation of the power of the human spirit. Check Clarice website for artist information.

Women of Color is a networking panel event that was created to highlight minority women established in their chosen fields. Several women will come to share their trials, tribulations, and successes in their fields with current UMD students. There will also be some performances.
