The Association of Latinx Professionals for America (ALPFA) is an influential organization committed to advancing the careers and professional development of Latinx students. ALPFA's mission revolves around empowering its members to achieve their fullest potential and fostering a strong sense of community and representation within the business world. The Coalition of Latinx Student Organizations (CLSO)

The Coalition of Latinx Student Organizations (formerly the Hispanic Heritage Coalition) serves as an umbrella organization and is made up of all Latinx student organizations active on campus, as well as faculty, staff, and students at large. CLSO strives to promote cultural awareness and education. Activities include the coordination of Latinx Heritage Month programming.

Latinx Student Union (LSU)

LSU provides students a place to express, celebrate, and engage with their Latinx culture at the University of Maryland. LSU serves as a home away from home to students who may feel lost on a campus as large as College Park. Students are given the opportunity to meet other Latinx people and form lasting friendships, as well as gain a sense of familia. The LSU is also very focused with what its members have to say, so the overall feel and attitude of LSU reflects its constituents. To achieve our mission we divide our efforts into committees.

La Familia Mentoring Program

La Familia Mentoring Program is a program assisting Latinx first-year students as well as transfers with their college transition by providing one-on-one guidance and support through the use of peer mentors. As a La Familia Mentor, you will be able to serve as a role model to incoming Latinx first-year students, attend events with your mentee throughout the year, make recommendations about the many resources available on campus, be an academic support for your mentee, and have fun! As a La Familia Mentee, you will be able to explore the campus with one-on-one guidance, attend events with your mentor throughout the year, use the many resources available to you on campus, engage in other cultures and backgrounds, and have academic support.

La Voz Latina

La Voz Latina is the bilingual newspaper on campus that focuses on telling the underrepresented stories on campus as well as at UMD. Our mission is to include everyone in our paper through our perfiles and news sections. We aim to inform the community through our resource section as well an always aim for inclusivity. 

Political Latinxs United for Movement and Action in Society (PLUMAS)

The Political Latinxs United Movement for Action in Society’s mission is to engage the Latinx community and all those who support it at the University of Maryland-College Park campus as well as in the surrounding communities by providing a space where students can vocalize or express their stance on candidates and issues of concern to the Latinx community. By providing this space, the Political Latinxs United Movement for Action in Society seeks to create civic engagement and awareness on social and political issues affecting the Latinx community through education and advocacy. The Political Latinxs United Movement for Action in Society organization is not limited to members who are of Latinx ancestry. We welcome any individual no matter their creed, religion, race, sexual orientation, individual identity, and experience level.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)

Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)

SACNAS goal is to foster the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in STEM, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM. SACNAS is a national society of scientists dedicated to fostering the success of Hispanic and Native American scientists. Their mission is to support and mentor Hispanic and Native American people in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field to advance in their careers at all different academic levels, from undergraduate students to individuals pursuing postdoctoral degrees.

La Gente

La Gente in Public Policy is a student-led organization aimed at building community, creating connections, and empowering students who identify as Latin/a/o/é/x. Undergraduate and graduate (master's and PhD) students and alumni, including those not in SPP, are welcome! La Gente will host networking, professional development, and guest speaker events; community building activities and discussions to foster unity. We will also include an international lens in recognition of the diversity within our community. If you are passionate about advocating and developing policy solutions for the issues that face Latin/a/o/é/x in the diaspora –  join La Gente.
