Turtle Camp is a leadership experience for first-year students beginning at the University of Maryland. Turtle Camp immerses students in opportunities to develop their leadership potential while creating community and connections before the semester begins. This four-day program incorporates small group discussions, dynamic activities, and unique experiences in a fun and inclusive environment.
Turtle Camp has multiple track experiences. You can choose to discover Washington D.C. or participate in community service through a campus-based track. Or, you can select one of the adventure tracks that include hiking, biking, canoeing, or kayaking as part of a backcountry-based track.
Regardless of the experience, students who participate in Turtle Camp will learn about themselves as leaders while:
- Making friends with other incoming students
- Connecting with current UMD student leaders and professional staff
- Learning tangible skills like teamwork and goal-setting
- Discovering their leadership style
