The Summer Leadership Series features two workshops led by a nationally recognized speaker, author, or expert in leadership development. These events provide students the opportunity to learn valuable and transferable leadership skills.

Summer Leadership Series events are FREE! Each workshop includes materials, self-assessments, and lunch. Participate in one or all workshops. Information and registration for the workshop are included below.

Mt. Vernon Leadership Institute

Mount Vernon Leadership Institute

Date: July 15, 2017

Location: Meet at Stamp Student Union, Held at Mount Vernon

Time: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm

Cost: Free to UMD Students

The Mount Vernon Leadership Institute is led by trained facilitators and historians to immerse participants in the actual problems that Washington faced, and insight into the decisions that started a nation. What did it mean to be a democratic or revolutionary leader during his time? What does it mean now?  

In addition to engaging in interactive curriculum and activities at Mt. Vernon, participants will also have the opportunity to explore the grounds and historic site. 

This program is FREE to registered students and includes transportation, lunch, programming, materials and admission to Mount Vernon.

LeaderShape Catalyst

  Time: 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM

   Cost: Free to UMD Students

The LeaderShape Catalyst program is a one-day leadership development institute for those interested in creating an impact. Each person will create a plan to make a positive impact through doing something extraordinary.

The workshop will challenge you to examine yourself and align your true values and interests with your actions. As a result of participating in Catalyst, students will:

  • Explore the best approaches to leadership based upon your unique talents and interests
  • Understand how you connect and contribute to the groups and causes you care about
  • Commit to a plan to be a catalyst for yourself and the groups or communities you are a part of

Participation is FREE! Meals and materials are provided for the day at no cost. Space is limited.
