Partners in Print

About Partners in Print

Partners in Print provides a supportive environment where parents can discover how to help their children learn to read. Mentors conduct evening workshops with parents and their kindergarten, first and second grade children. These workshops are centered on ways parents can engage their children in reading at home. Workshops are conducted in both English and Spanish.

Partners in Print runs Monday through Thursday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Mentors are required to work two days per week.

Program Goals

Partners in Print will:

  • Provide parents with training to help their children read
  • Offer children, teachers and parents the benefits of a long-lasting parent-involvement program
  • Develop reading skills in children to help them become readers for life
  • Encourage parental involvement their children's education
  • Encourage children to learn how to read at home, not just at school
  • Allow children to learn how language works from their parents

Partners in Print Family Day

Each year, all of the parents and children who have attended Partners in Print workshops are invited to visit the University of Maryland campus for Partners in Print Family Day.

PNP Family Day includes a resource fair for families, information about college, and fun and creative literacy activities. The event typically includes aspects of language and culture, including themed books and performances.

Each child who attends Partners in Print Family Day takes home at least one book to add to their home library.

Nearly 100 campus members volunteer to help make this event a success!
