Health Insurance for Graduate Students

Students are strongly encouraged to have a health insurance plan while studying at UMD for needs that cannot be met by the UHC, such as serious illness or injury. Graduate assistants are provided health insurance through the university employee health program; details of available plans and benefits are available at the University's Human Resources Benefits website. Graduate students without an assistantship may purchase a plan through the University-sponsored health insurance program.

International Student Repatriation Insurance

The University of Maryland offers a group insurance policy which provides emergency medical evacuation and repatriation insurance as required for J-1 visa holders. It is recommended that all other visa holders carry this insurance. Coverage is provides emergency medical evacuation up to $25,000 or Repatriation of mortal remains up to $10,000.
