Computer Labs

Email Accounts
Activate your umd.edu account (your official University email address) and have the option of adding a WAM or GLUE accounts. If you would like to change the e-mail address that the University uses to send you announcements, you can do so through Testudo.
Computer Peer-Training Courses
If you need to bring your computer skills up to speed, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) offers inexpensive ($10) non-credit classes throughout the summer and the academic year. You will need an active university email account to take courses. The more you can do before classes start, the better.
Activate Print Account
All WAM labs and most other computer labs do not allow you to print unless you have a print account. There are 3 steps for setting up a Print Account. It is recommended that you do them in order.
Laptop Lending Program
The University is offering a laptop lending program to its UMCP students, allowing them to use new Dell 5100 laptops with wireless internet cards. Bring your student ID and one other form of ID (e.g. drivers license) to the Information Desk at the Stamp Student Union. Laptops can be checked out for up to 2 hours at a time. For questions call 4-DESK.
Wireless Network Access
The University has implemented a wireless network in many common areas across campus. For accessing the wireless networks you will need a computer with a wireless etherned card. You can log-on to the "UMD" network and then open your web browser. Once you try to connect to the network, a website page will promopt you to enter your directory ID and password.
Low Cost Microsoft Software for GA's Who Work at Home
The Microsoft "Work at Home" policy provides an opportunity for graduate students with assistantships to install an additional copy of selected Microsoft software products on their home computer or portable PC for the duration of their employment with the University. Eligible Software products include Microsoft Office 2000 Premium, Microsoft Works, Publisher, Front Page, Visual Studio Professional, or any of their component products, regardless of version. Please note that Operating System products are NOT eligible for Work at Home use. For more information see below links:
