Michelle Y. Angyelof Award for Outstanding Service to Off-Campus Students
|The Michelle Y. Angyelof Award for Outstanding Service to Off-Campus Students recognizes an undergraduate or graduate student who has made outstanding contributions to the quality of life for University of Maryland off-campus students during the 2010-2011 academic year. Presented each spring semester at the university-wide Annual Awards Banquet, this award was established in 1994 as a tribute to a student employee of Office of Commuter Affairs and Community Service. All of the students Michelle came in contact with were served with a big smile. Her loving ways, giving spirit, and amazing enthusiasm for life touched all of the staff who had the opportunity to work with her.
|The contributions made by off-campus students at the University of Maryland are numerous, but the award specifically is given to a off-campus student whose activities and involvement have directly or indirectly benefited other off-campus students. Realizing that many off-campus students are juggling jobs, families, school, and other commitments, it is important to note that the "contributions" on which this award is based may take many forms. Areas such as advocacy for off-campus issues, programming, information, or a specific off-campus student subpopulation; encouragement of off-campus involvement on campus; promoting understanding of off-campus life; developing initiatives which serve off-campus students; or addressing issues of security and transportation fit the criteria for "contribution to off-campus students". Applications are reviewed by an Awards Selection Committee to determine which student exemplifies the spirit of service upon which this award was founded.
