2019 Veterans Day Honor and Remember Celebration

Join us on Monday November 11 to honor our Veteran community! Enjoy remarks from UMD veterans Sara Olsen and Jack Baker.
Currently a PhD student in the School of Public Health, Sara Olsen completed nine years of active duty and several combat deployments as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal officer in the U.S. Navy. Inspired by her post-active duty work in training wounded warriors, she became one of the founders of the Crossroads Adaptive Athletic Alliance, a nonprofit designed to increase inclusive fitness for all people with disability.
At present a director in the facility management staff, Jack Baker came to the University in 1992 after serving twenty years overseas and stateside in the U.S. Air Force. Having reached the rank of Colonel, he retired as the Military Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Installations.

Honor and Remember Vigil
Join us on the Front Steps of the Chapel following the Veterans Day Celebration (Monday, November 11) to honor UMD Veterans we have lost. Air Force, Army, and Navy ROTC Cadets will stand in vigil from 1 pm- 3 pm.

Main Chapel, Garden Chapel and Gardens: Open for Reflection-Need a place to decompress, meditate, or pray? Come by the Main or the Garden (West) Chapels, typically open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. The interfaith Tree of Life has been permanently installed in the Garden Chapel; all are invited to visit the space to admire this sacred work of art and to take time to pray, relax, and reflect. The Garden of Reflection and Remembrance is also available during daylight hours, and equally as welcoming and relaxing
Garden Grant- Host Your Event for Free-Apply today for a $250 to supplement an event or initiative that features the Chapel's Garden of Reflection and Remembrance and/or Chapel Labyrinth. Funds may be used by UMD student organizations or departments, or off-campus organizations to supplement Chapel rentals, honoraria, supplies, marketing, or food.
